Cement industry in waste management
The Cement Producers Association organized an online expert debate that accompanied the presentation of a report prepared by the Jagiellonian Institute entitled "The Cement Industry in Waste Management". "Cement industry in waste management". The debate was attended by the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Jacek Ozdoba, representatives of local governments and the cement sector.
Cement plants are responsible for managing 10-15% of municipal waste in Poland - said Maciej Mierzwiński, one of the report authors. He also added that the cement sector created the production of alternative fuels in Poland, and annually it manages even 2 million tons of waste. Jacek Ozdoba, Deputy Minister for Climate and Environment, highlighted the important role of the cement sector in the economy and announced consultations on legislative solutions with the industry, stressing at the same time the key issue of waste management costs by local governments.
The Chairman of the Association of Cement Producers, Krzysztof Kieres, a member of the Management Board of Dyckerhoff Polska Sp. z o.o., emphasised the activities of the cement sector for the benefit of climate and environment protection - especially the reduction of CO2 emissions by 30% over the years and the important role of cement and concrete in the GOZ.
Adam Mierzwiński, co-author of the report, emphasised the important role of the cement sector in waste management and the need to take this role into account at the legislative level, at a time when the entire system is undergoing reconstruction. The discussion was summarised by the SPC Chairman, Krzysztof Kieres. He also appealed to decision makers for predictability of legislative work and the participation of the industry in this work.
